Stem Cell Related Patent Number US5436151
Title: | Method for culturing human hematopoietic stem cells in vitro | Inventors: | McGlave, Philip B.; St. Paul, MN, USA
Verfaillie, Catherine M.; St. Paul, MN, USA
Miller, Jeffrey S.; Little Canada , MN, USA | Summary: | Described herein are methods of culturing hematopoietic cells, and applications thereof. The invention relates to a process by which hematopoietic stem cells are cultured in a non-contacting system with stromal cells whereby differentiation and replication are maintained for prolonged periods of time. Further described are methods by which the populations are preferably maintained in a liquid stromal growth medium, which extends the ability of the stem cells in the population to differentiate and self-replicate for extended periods. The population of cells is described herein as comprising an effective stimulatory amount of IL-3 and the macrophage inflammatory protein-1?a (MIP-1?a). Therapeutic applications to a variety of human diseases are included. This invention represents a continuation of other applications filed by the same assignee and inventors. | Abstract: | A method for culturing mammalian hematopoietic stem cells is provided comprising maintaining a population of human stem cells in fixed, non-contacting relationship to a population of cultured stromal cells, which populations are in liquid stromal growth medium connection, so that the ability of the stem cells to differentiate and self-replicate is maintained during an extended culture period. | US Patent Website: | Click Here for Full Text of Patent | Title Number: | US5436151 | Application Number: | US1992000862814 | Date Filed: | 03/04/1992 | Date Published: | 25/07/1995 | Assignee: | Regents of the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN, USA |
