Stem Cell Related Patent Number US5610056

Title:Use of stem cell factor interleukin-6 and soluble interleukin-6 receptor to induce the development of hematopoietic stem cells
Inventors:Nakahata, Tatsutoshi; Tokyo, Japan
Summary:Described herein are methods for the ex vivo expansion of multipotent hematopoietic cells via a process of culturing the cells with a combination of cytokines such as interleukin-6 and soluble interleukin-6 receptor in the presence of stem cell factor. Claims of the invention include improved proliferation, differentiation and terminal maturation of erythroid cells from normal human hematopoietic stem cells in a culture medium comprised with this combination of cytokines and stem cell factor. Therapeutic applications are included.
Abstract:Stem cell factor in combination with interleukin-6 and soluble interleukin-6 receptor supports proliferation, differentiation and terminal maturation of erythroid cells from normal human hematopoietic stem cells.
