Title: | Methods for using the obese gene and its gene product to stimulate hematopoietic development | Inventors: | Snodgrass, H. Ralph; Powell, OH, USA

Zupancic, Thomas Joel; Worthington, OH, USA
Shafer, Alan Wayne; Lancaster, OH, USA | Summary: | Described herein are methods of using leptin in combination with at least one cytokine to activate hematopoietic cells. The invention relates to methods for using various forms of a novel receptor expressed by hematopoietic and endothelial cells, an additional variant form of which has been detected in brain cells and shown to bind to the obese gene product, leptin. Methods are provided by which leptin is used to stimulate the growth and development of receptor-positive hematopoietic and endothelial cells in vitro and in vivo. The receptor is further described as selectively expressed in hematopoietic progenitor cells with long-term repopulation potential, such that agents specifically binding to this receptor may be used to identify and isolate progenitor cells. Therapeutic applications are included, such as in the treatment of immunodeficiency, anemia or myeloid deficiency. | Abstract: | | US Patent Website: | Click Here for Full Text of Patent | Title Number: | US6355237 | Application Number: | US1996000618957 | Date Filed: | 20/03/1996 | Date Published: | 12/03/2002 | Assignee: | Progenitor, Inc., Columbus, OH, USA |
