Stem Cell Related Patent Number US6555374

Title:Multiple mesodermal lineage differentiation potentials for adipose tissue-derived stromal cells and uses thereof
Inventors:Gimble, Jeffrey Martin; Chapel Hill, NC, USA
Halvorsen, Juan-Di Chang; Holly Springs, NC, USA
Wilkison, William O.; Bahama, NC, USA
Summary:Described herein is a medium for differentiating stromal cells from adipose tissue into hematopoietic supporting stromal cells and skeletal and smooth muscle myocytes. This invention relates to a non-naturally-occurring mixture of cells comprising an isolated extramedullary adipose tissue-derived stromal cell and a non-adipose tissue-derived cell capable of forming a blood cell. Further described are therapeutic applications of such a source of fully differentiated and functional cells, such as in research, transplantation and in the development of tissue engineering products for the treatment of human diseases and traumatic tissue injury repair.
Abstract:The invention relates to methods and compositions for the differentiation of stromal cells from adipose tissue into hematopoietic supporting stromal cells and myocytes of both the skeletal and smooth muscle type. The cells produced by the methods are useful in providing a source of fully differentiated and functional cells for research, transplantation and development of tissue engineering products for the treatment of human diseases and traumatic tissue injury repair.
