Stem Cell Related Patent Number US6743772
Title: | Use of parovirus capsid particles in the inhibition of cell proliferation and migration | Inventors: | Broliden, Kristina; S-182 39 Danderyd, Sweden
Westgren, Magnus; S-112 20 Stockholm, Sweden | Summary: | Described herein is a process of inhibiting hematopoiesis of a hematopoietic cell. Central to the invention is the discovery of methods and compositions for the inhibition of growth and/or migration of cells that have the P antigen, including cells of hematopoietic origin and endothelial cells. Disclosed herein are methods by which empty non-infectious recombinant B19 parvovirus capsids, B19 capsid proteins or fragments of B19 capsid proteins are used to manufacture medicaments that can be administered to a subject to inhibit hematopoietic progenitor cell growth prior to stem cell transplantation. Further described are therapeutic applications by which endothelial cell growth may be employed as an anti-tumorigenesis treatment or to prevent restenosis or fibrotic build up following prosthetic implantation, or to prevent disorders that involve the abnormal proliferation of cells that have the P antigen such as polycytemia vera. | Abstract: | The invention described herein relates to the discovery of methods and compositions for the inhibition of growth and/or migration of cells that have the P antigen, including but not limited to, cells of hematopoietic origin and endothelial cells. More specifically, parvovirus capsid particles or fragments of parvovirus capsid proteins are used to manufacture medicaments that can be administered to a subject to inhibit hematopoietic progenitor cell growth (e.g., prior to stem cell transplantation), endothelial cell growth, (e.g., as an anti-tumorigenesis treatment or to prevent restenosis or fibrotic build up following prosthetic implantation), or to prevent disorders that involve the abnormal proliferation of cells that have the P antigen (e.g., polycytemia vera). | US Patent Website: | Click Here for Full Text of Patent | Title Number: | US6743772 | Application Number: | US2002000200616 | Date Filed: | 19/07/2002 | Date Published: | 01/06/2004 | Assignee: | None |
