Stem Cell Related Patent Number US7091035
Title: | Cell culturing and storage systems, devices and methods | Inventors: | Ravin, Rea; Rockville, MD, USA
Sullivan, James V.; Bowie, MD, USA
McKay, Ronald D.; Bethesda, MD, USA | Summary: | This invention describes a novel long-term system of cell culturing, which is configured and arranged such as to allow the continual monitoring of the dynamic processes that occur during the proliferation and differentiation of stem cells. Further disclosed are aspects by which the cells may be manipulated by focal application of growth factors such as BMP and CNTF during the monitoring, at which time electrical recordings may be made from the cells. The particular microscopic viewing apparatus is disclosed, as are recording methods. Uses are explained in the long-term culturing of cells, such as central nervous system or embryonic stem cells | Abstract: | Featured is a long-term cell culture system being configured and arranged so as to be capable of monitoring the dynamic processes that occur during proliferation and differentiation of stem cells such as central nervous system (CNS) stem cells/embryonic stem cells. In particular aspects, the system allows monitoring of such dynamic processes continually and to focally manipulate the cells by focal application of growth factors such as BMP, CNTF and other growth factors. Preferred systems are capable of electrical recording from the cells. | US Patent Website: | Click Here for Full Text of Patent | Title Number: | US7091035 | Application Number: | US2002000334565 | Date Filed: | 30/12/2002 | Date Published: | 15/08/2006 | Assignee: | The USA as represented by the Department of Health and Human Services, Washington, DC, USA |
